OCD Treatment for Adults in Weston, FL

Intensive Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Treatment Programs

Conveniently located near Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Palm Beach (Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties), NBI’s Intensive Treatment

Program for OCD was developed to meet the needs of local, out-of-town and international adults as an alternative to inpatient treatment.

The OCD treatment program was designed to provide participants with the level of services and education necessary to address their

current symptoms and improve their level of functioning. The program assists those individuals who lack access to specialized care

where they reside, or whose symptom severity requires intensive care. The Intensive Treatment Program for OCD at NBI is also a

treatment option for individuals who have not benefited sufficiently from prior treatment or desire to accelerate their course of treatment.

OCD Treatment Program Duration

Each OCD Treatment program is tailored to address the specific needs of each individual. The average duration of the program is five

45-minute sessions per day, five days a week for four to six weeks. At times, it is clinically necessary for patients to be seen on

weekends during their intensive treatment. This determination is based on whether the patient is able to maintain treatment gains over

the weekend and not undo the work that they have accomplished during the prior week of treatment.

Activities

All of the sessions at NBI are conducted by clinicians specialized in Cognitive Behavioral Treatment (CBT) for OCD. At NBI,

evidence-based treatments are tailored to the specific needs of each patient based on a Complete Clinical Diagnostic Evaluation.

Initial CBT sessions emphasize psychoeducation on anxiety, OCD, and treatment for OCD, as well as readiness for change.

Subsequent sessions primarily focus on Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), which is a well-researched behavioral technique

for the treatment of OCD.

During ERP, patients are assisted in progressive exposures to their specific feared stimuli while not engaging in their ritualized

behaviors (compulsions), which are used to decrease their anxiety symptoms. Sessions take place in the natural environment

where the triggers, obsessive thoughts, and compulsive behaviors occur. For example, sessions may be held at restaurants,

patient’s home or office, shopping malls, buses, or airplanes.

The goal is to allow the patient to generalize the skills that they learn during the sessions and be able to use them in their everyday lives.

In addition to ERP, individual CBT sessions also incorporate Cognitive Therapy, Coping Skills Training, and Relapse Prevention.

When possible, sessions are scheduled with other patients and the patient’s family in order to enhance treatment gains and to provide a

network of support. Due to the nature of OCD and many other neurobiological conditions, medication assessments are often warranted.
