Michele Bechor, Ph.D., is a postdoctoral resident at the NeuroBehavioral Institute (NBI). She received a Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology with minors in Biology and Chemistry from the Florida International University, during which she participated in research on enriched environments and emotional reactivity in early life in an animal model. Dr. Bechor earned a Doctorate degree in Clinical Science in Child and Adolescent Psychology from Florida International University. Dr. Bechor also completed a secondary major (Graduate Certificate) in Cognitive Neuroscience, as her dissertation work focused specifically on neural mechanisms of primary anxiety disorders in children and adolescents. Throughout her graduate studies, Dr. Bechor received specialized training in evidence-based assessment and early intervention for children with primary anxiety disorders, depression, attention problems, disruptive behavior disorders, behavioral parent training and in pediatric psychology across outpatient and hospital settings. More specifically, Dr. Bechor gained over six years’ experience working primarily at the Child Anxiety & Phobia Program at the Center for Children & Families, at which she conducted individual, family-based and group Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. Dr. Bechor’s dissertation work investigated the effects of computer-based therapy for anxiety as both a first-line and second-line treatment in youth.

Dr. Bechor completed her predoctoral clinical internship year at the FIU Center for Children & Families, where she provided evidence-based assessment and intervention services for a wide range of psychological disorders. During her internship, Dr. Bechor continued to train in treatments utilizing motivational interviewing in teens with attention problems at risk for substance abuse. Dr. Bechor also conducted comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations for youth with various psychological disorders, including learning disabilities, ADHD, anxiety and disruptive behavior disorders. As part of her internship experience, Dr. Bechor also completed predoctoral training at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s Mailman Center for Child Development, where she continued to train in evidence-based assessment and intervention for youth with behavior problems and anger management, as well as with pediatric populations (coping, stress management).

Dr. Bechor is working towards specialization in CBT for children and adolescents with primary anxiety disorders, behavioral parent training and in psychoeducational assessments for children and adolescents. Dr. Bechor is currently completing her postdoctoral residency with focused training in evidence-based assessment and intensive treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorders, where she works under the supervision of the senior licensed staff at NBI towards completing her postdoctoral requirements for licensure as a psychologist in Florida.
