Dr. Cortes is a Post-Doctoral fellow at The Neurobehavioral Institute in Weston. She holds her Doctoral degree in clinical psychology, a Masters of Science, and Bachelor of Science in psychology with a minor in substance abuse studies from Nova Southeastern University. During her clinical training, she practiced in the community mental health setting, serving multicultural populations in family, couples, groups and individual modalities and also trained in the neuropsychological assessment of individuals of various age groups. While she completed her training at Nova Southeastern University she was president of the Eating Disorders Awareness Student Association and participated in educational presentations, community outreach, and research concerning eating disorders and comorbid conditions. She also conducted research on drug experimentation and cultural values among Hispanic adolescents. Dr. Cortes participated in the planning of the annual Eating Disorders Awareness walk with The Alliance for Eating Disorder since 2011.

Dr. Cortes completed her pre-doctoral internship at The Renfrew Center of South Florida and provided services for women with eating disorders and co-morbid conditions including mood disorders, substance abuse, self-harm, trauma, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and personality disorders. She is a member of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals and the American Psychological Association. At NBI, Dr. Cortes treats patients and conducts groups in Spanish, as well as in English.
