Social & Emotional Development Growth Experience (SEDGE)

NBI's SEDGE was created to provide an opportunity for friendship and social problem solving in a small group setting. All activities and exercises are designed to provide opportunities for positive interaction, and enjoyment, as well as to teach specific skills. These skills are embedded in fun games and activities. The group is coordinated by licensed psychologists. SEDGE meets weekly for eight weeks on Monday nights starting promptly at 6:15 pm. Parents are responsible for transportation and for providing relevant health information. Parents receive weekly modules with an outline of group goals and activities. This information can be used to support and reinforce your child’s participation in the group. There is a pre-test and post-test assessment of your child’s social skill development. We welcome your feedback and look forward to a great experience together. For children and adolescents in need of social skill development. This is a fee-required, closed group. Cogmed Working Memory Training may be an option. Cogmed is a computerized training program that has been shown to improve working memory in children and adults. OCF Presentation: Utilizing CBT for Treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorders in Children with OCD

Interest in the implementation of CBT for the treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) has increased over the years. Although ABA is the most utilized intervention, when it comes to ASDs, there are several additional CBT techniques that with some modification can be quite useful, including in the treatment of comorbid OCD. This roundtable will discuss how to tailor CBT for this community and strategies to manage clinical complexities that arise when implementing CBT.

OCF Presentation: Is it Fun or is it Therapy? Group Treatment for Kids with OCD and Autistic Spectru

This presentation will describe how to modify treatment for children and adolescents with OCD and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). One example of a group intervention that was created to assist children and adolescents with ASDs and OCD will be discussed. Social and Emotional Development Growth Experience (SEDGE) is a group intervention that targets a number of skill sets including social interactions, flexibility, and obsessive compulsive behaviors. SEDGE is delivered in a small group and the skills are embedded in fun, camp-like games and activities. There will also be a demonstration of group modules.

17th Annual OCD Conference

Since 1993, our Annual Conference has been the only national meeting focused solely on Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and OC related disorders. The unique event allows people with OCD and their loved ones to experience the latest OCD information alongside the mental health professionals who care for them. Approximately 1,500 attendees are expected to join us in Washington, D.C. for this year's conference, our 17th. This year's conference features more than 100 presentations, workshops, and seminars as well as more than a dozen support groups. Our presenters include some of the most experienced and knowledgeable clinicians and researchers in the field, as well as people with OCD and family members who are willing to share their story. OCF Presentation: How CBT Can Help Children and Adolescents with OCD who have Tics

Many children and adolescents with OCD also have tics. This presentation will help participants increase their knowledge about tics occurring alongside OCD and learn about a comprehensive CBT treatment. There will be a discussion and demonstration of treatment-enhancing strategies such as the use of creative, age-appropriate techniques when working with young children, the detection of premonitory sensations, and path-tracing tics in the body. Attendees will learn how to develop their own strategies to control tics.

Technological advances have provided CBT clinicians hope to overcome some treatment barriers. New technology could also open the doors for treatment of OCD. Despite the mounting evidence, clinicians are left with little practical knowledge. This panel will review the available technology for use in CBT for OCD, discuss case studies from the panelists’ clinical practices in which new technology was used, and explore the ethical issues surrounding the use of technology in CBT treatment.

Translating empirically-based approaches for the treatment of pediatric Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) can be challenging. Most treatment protocols fail to address many age-related factors. Creative Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for pediatric OCD is an evidence-based treatment program that deals with these factors, and tailors treatment using creative and age-appropriate tools to best fit the child’s needs. Participants will learn the principles underlying creative CBT and how to incorporate these treatment-enhancing strategies for each age group.
